Singer * Songwriter * Musician * Producer

What I’m Searching for

Creative collaborations.

Im searching for an old school engineer/producer (with a good quality analogue studio with a nice grand, wurly, etc..) for a long term collaboration on a 70s style project. Im also an ex producer more focused on the songwriting/musician side of things so Ive always wanted that partnership with someone more engineer focused.
Im also a singer but would be keen either developing someone or using different singers for each track which would be preferable.
The ideal scenario would be to find someone like myself who is also a multi-instrumentalist. Open to also songwriting together but I dont mind taking the lead on that.
Im open minded to types of collaborations but I do want to go down the route of real instruments, with that classic 70s sound. think Neil Young Harvest.. just a very well recoreded album.
The tracks on here are a small example of work i have done and been involved in. Keen to just commit to one big project. Ideally someone London based but really im open to anyone in the world. Best way to contact me is Insta@christianjamescreative. Please send examples of work (and explain what you did on relevant links/tracks)

Brief History

I was a pro musician based in London for most of my 20's. Various session work in the studio and live as a Piano/Keys player, Bassist and to a less extent Guitar. Luckily I got to work all over the world as a musician.

Having spent time trying to go somewhere with original bands I eventually started to write and produce my own instrumental ambient music, which really was an experiment as a producer with a fairly modest home studio.

Long story short I eventually developed and produced an album for a fairly well known female artist which was the last project I did before quitting music for good, mainly down to the dishonesty surrounding the whole album.

Luckily over lock-down I found my love and passion for music again and learned also learned to sing. Wrote over 30 songs, some demo clips of them in the first playlist on the left (Every instrument is played live apart from drums which I programmed via midi)

Songwriter

Originally I mainly focused on music and production and collaborated with singer songwriters developing their melodies and having no part of lyric writing.
I became very proficient at developing singers songwriters and bringing the best out in them.

Having dealt with endless unreliable flaky singers, and generally finding it too difficult to find young talent, I decided to force myself to do everything, something now I wish I had done from the start.
Lyrics are now as enjoyable for me almost as much as music and melody.

I still love collaborating, and ultimately I want to find the right person or people to write with.

Producer

The first album I produced in my 20's was an instrumental ambient album, which was really a creative outlet I needed on the side of playing live which really had become a job and didn't fill that creative void, especially as it was mainly covers.
It was done on Logic with a few instruments I owned and the rest software with programmed drums.
I also collaborated a little with singers and produced demos but no one ever wanted to fully commit to music in the same way I did.

Eventually I developed songs for a young female singer and produced an album with a budget from an investor. From the back of that she signed with Sony.
This was a great opportunity to use some good musicians and make use of an engineer, but ultimately I did all the work. All the pre-production, wrote most of the music including the brass and string arrangements with some input from the session musicians on the day.
I also performed all the piano/keys, some of the bass and guitar parts.

Although there are moments I am proud of, and one song in particular i think is a strong production (Toys in the attic) generally this was too much to take on, and going forward I would love to be part of a production team especially working with a producer/engineer as the engineering and technical side of recording is not my bag.
